(Solved) - WIN RAR ERROR ,FILE CORUPTED BAD HEADER

Hello , i have a problem with a compressed ZIP file , when i am trying to extract i receive the following ERROR : file corrupted ,bad header .I specify that the file was sent to me by email an due to network restriction i could not download 'it as a rar. extension file or exe so the extension was changed to pdf ( pdf downloads are are accepted) bythe sender(and changed back to rar by me after downloading it) . Inside the archive is a driver( Conexant D400_External USB 56K Modem ). I am om board of a comercial vessel and the network i am using has some restriction , but i need some drivers for my laptop. I need some help,i need to know if the archive can be repaired ,or haw to receive this drivers throw my email. I already tried the option repaire archive from winrar ,not succesfuly . The fact that the extension of the file was changed during sending can permanently damage the file, make it un useble ?

Ok. It should start with PK, not Rar (for a .zip file) Not sure about the exclanation mark.

So. what can i do ? I forgot to tell you that after repairing the archive ( from winrar menu 'archive repair' ) on of the errors is gone . now no more error apeares when i am opening the archive(bad header ) , now i get 2 errors ( when i am trying to extract )
1. CRC failed in ..... the file is corrupt
2. Cannot execute C/USERS/ Mircea/APP DATA/TEMP/rar/$EX00981/conexant ....
one of the error is gone ,before i had 3 errors.

Oh, gawd, I was working on the results of the emailed file.
If you get a CRC error then the file is, I suspect, not repairable.

(Light house )but how can i download this software , all .exe extensions are banned an if its a archive that containes a .exe file same result ,download banned. I don't know from what reason but it seems that .pdf extension is accepted , i can download .pdf files from my yahoo email or even from various sites.
(Jim) Right now i can not try to download from the link you gave me , because internet connection is very slow at this time ( probably to many guys on the ship are using the connection now), i will post the result as soon as posible. But i already tried to download this drivers ( for dell inpiron N7010) from various pages with same result banned extension .EXE . On this site the drivers have other extension??

And one more question ' Do you think the results will be same if the extension of the driver it self is changed from .EXE to .PDF and than sent to me by email (without compression) , so after download is complete will change the extension back ti EXE ? Will this work or changing the extension will again damage the driver some how making it unuseble ?

mikisobo, the best way to resolve this issue is to contact your friend via email and ask him to resend that file to you.
Tell him to rename the original file like this.
'TheFileName.exe.pdf' without the quotes.

DO NOT erase the .exe extension, just add the .pdf to the entire filename.
After you download it to your desktop, then edit and delete the .pdf extension and try to run the .exe file.

by vessels internet provider ,we have satellite internet, and a wrls network on the vessel so each one of us can connect to the network from his own cabin.
i think telemar is the name of the provider , when the download is blocked telemar logo apears on my screen an a message: Download blocked , Reason: banned extension : .exe (application)

Good news! I finally installed 2 drivers on my laptop one for graphics and one for wrls . My friend uploaded the file on www.fileshre.ro and i downloaded it ( using same procedure,driver compressed with winrar and extension of the archive changed to pdf ..bla bla ). But this time i did not download this file on desktop as i've have done until now ( downloading it on desktop ,temporary drive, might damage the archive, so i've been told). Fist driver i downloaded worked perfect , no error when i extracted it. when i tried the same procedure for the next one i recived again an eror wile extracting it from the archive 'archive unexpected end'
I forgot to specify that i am using a laptop( borrowed,a 6 years old hp ,Windows xp, 32 bt ) to download the drivers and than i transfer the file on my laptop (the one without drivers,dell windows 7, 64 bt ), and here on this laptop i start working on the archive ( change back the extension an extract ). After recieving the error for the second driver, i tried to change the extension and extract the driver on the same laptop,the one that i used for downloading it , an than if succesfuly to transfer the driver it self to the other laptop. Worked good, on this laptop no errors when extracting the archive. So the same archive that on one computer cold not be exctracted, worked just fine on the other computer. ( same version of winraran on both 393, for 32bt and 64 bt acordingly )

:) tank you , finally i think the problem was the download speed , sometimes if some archive would not work(usually when the download speed i very slow) i just downloaded it one more time ( when speed was better). Here the download speed oscilates between 0.5(min)-15(max) kb :D, sad no?
