The wealth calculator script can determine starting gold or appropriate wealth level for characters based on level, party size, and whether this is a new character or a party during the course of a campaign.
- The PC WBL for level 10 is 49k. Consider the amount of magic items, magic weapons that your players would like to buy when you discuss it in session 0 and figure if you're ok with that level of power. If not then adjust accordingly.
- Potions, armor, weapons, magical items. Magical gear is expensive, so you blow through it all pretty quick (and the DMG suggest a limit, like no more of 1/4 of your starting gold on any single thing, to prevent you from getting just one really powerful thing, like super duper armor, and then just waiting til you loot something decent for.
- Feb 15, 2010 3.5Starting gold for 1st level characters I'm going to be running a campaign soon, but I'm having trouble finding starting gold. The DMG lists 900, but none of the example starting packages have anywhere near that much money. It does show, however, that the npc classes roll for money at chargen.
- That said, you can use the Starting Equipment table as a guide. The table is divided into four tiers of levels (matching the tiers described earlier in the DMG). Levels 1-4 get normal starting equipment. Higher levels get that plus some gold, with a base amount plus a die-roll for a little bit more.

Description
Unlike the sield dwarves, the gold dwarves maintained their great kingdom in the Great Rift and did not decline in terrible wars against evil humanoids. While they practiced some magic, they never acquired the hubris that caused the downfall of some human nations. Confident and secure in their remote home, the gold dwarves gained a reputation for haughtiness and pride.
Since the Thunder Blessing, many young gold dwarves have left the Great Rift and are exploring the rest of Faer没n. The folk of other lands have learned that while some gold dwarves are aloof and suspicious, for the most part they are forthright warriors and shrewd traders.
Regions
The ancestral home of the gold dwarves is the Great Rift, located in the dry plains of the Shaar. Gold dwarven outposts can also be found in the Smoking Mountains of Unther and in the Giant's Run Mountains west of the Vilhon Reach. The gold dwarf entry on Table 1-4: Character Regions (FRCS, p. 30) describes characters raised in the Rift.

Unlike statet in the Player's Handbook, characters in the Forgotten Realms almost always have a patron deity. See FRCS p. 39 for more details.
Combat
Racial Traits
Gold dwarves have all the dwarven racial traits given in Chapter 2 of the Player's Handbook (pp. 14) except as follows:
- +2 Constitution, -2 Dexterity (see above): Gold dwarves are stout and tough, but not as quick or agile as other races.
- +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against aberrations: Gold dwarves are trained in special combat techniques against the many bizarre creatures that live in the Underdark. (This replaces the attack bonus against orcs and goblinoids.)
- Automatic and bonus languages as listed above.

The wealth calculator script can determine starting gold or appropriate wealth level for characters based on level, party size, and whether this is a new character or a party during the course of a campaign. Use 'By this level' if you want values for the start of that level (useful if you want to make sure your party's wealth has been on-track thus far) or use 'During this level' if you want to see how much wealth the party should accumulate over the course of that level. 'Effective' converts magic items into their gold piece values (at 100%, 50%, or 20%), and 'Cumulative' adds all previous levels starting from level 1 (or higher) together into one large sum.
