The melee damage does in fact affect the bow. If you hit left CTRL whihc causes you to do a melee attack wiht the bow. As for firing. I don't believe so. On the flip side they do good against golems cause of the burn damage. I use a Phoenix on a dedi with only slightly boosted weight for my metal runs, because it can do the speed mode even whilst heavily encumbered somyou can make the most use out of its weight. I have 280% melee and gather 26 metal from a pure metal node with mc pick. Friend uses same pick with 150% melee and gets 60 metal, at a slower rate.

You can get it to spawn next to your base because of the following: It always respawns at it's last location, so if the heatwave ends while you are following it you will know where it is for the next heatwave. It also chases you when you eat flowers.. hint hint
Would be helpful if it stated how much flamethrower durability and how much flamethrower ammo was needed to tame this. Even a system like the tranq where you can put in damage of a bow, flamethrower, or wyvern and it will tell you how much of each it will take.
You can use the wynern to breath fire on it and follow it round during the heatwave it makes easier to trame without using a random flyar and hit it with a trouch
You can look for it with a parasaur when heatwave isn active..it can detect an ash pile..i got lucky and found one after 5min
Find a phenix during a heatwave and follow it until it ends. The phenix will turn into ashes and land on the ground but will spawn right back at the same exact spot during the next heatwave. Build a trap 6 blocks high so I can't glitch out and you have yourself a trapped phenix to tame:)
Fun fact! You can tame the Phoenix by hitting it with a torch so you don’t have to waste you’re time shooting it and missing and what not just wanted to help everyone out because this creature is definitely something worth getting

It introduced a new taming method,while not the pseudo-boss we prayed 4 but to tame it u set it on fire with flame arrow,flame throweror a fire Wyvern,they only spawn during heat waves.keep this in mind.
On scorched, be sure you have full ghillie(heat) and a jerboa(super easy tame) to notify you of weather events. Phoenix only comes during heat wave so listen for “high pitch purr” from your jerboa. Search the map and find this awesome bird! Once that’s done just wait and see where it despawns when heat wave is over. You will see a glowing light on the ground. BUILD A PEN AT LEAST 6 WALLS HIGH AND 6 WALLS WIDE AROUND THAT SPOT. Reason is it tends to respawn above the ground since it never lands. Next heat wave, pray your calculations are correct and it’s trapped! After that just use a flame thrower OR fire wyvern to burn the Phoenix for tame. Again, this thing only spawns during heat waves so be efficient!
It can be cloned! I just froze mine with an owl and the cloner recognized it. Will have to force it to “land” otherwise the machine won’t recognize the Phoenix is on there.
Only appear in heat waves, reappear in the same spot they were last heat wave, taming carries over from heat wave to heat wave. Possible taming methods include using a griffin and a flame thrower, tapping its pile of ashes in between heat waves, and chasing it down with a fire wyvern.

Use fire wyvern to tame it..Hard to use fire weapons as it doesn't seem to land
Trap it in a argy trap but instead of using regular dino gates use behemoth ones and then keep on hitting it will a high melee fire wyvern. Remember they only last for 5 mins so tame them quick
The higher the damage of the weapon the faster it tames, so attacking stat on wyverns matters when taming, and the damage percent of the weapon firing the fire arrow, and the dmg percent of the flame thrower also matters
Can use flame thrower and fire wyvern Dododex fix this
If you can’t find the ashes but know the general location of where the Phoenix was, use a Parasuar set to “All” to detect it.
If you can transfer- use a griffin + flamethrower. Wyvern works well too but I had better luck with the former method.

Best to follow it, and watch it's ashes fall. Build a *5 high* trap with stone doorways. Make sure it has a roof. At the next super heat bring over a fire wyvern. Use rare flowers to lure it closer to your base just to make it easier.
