How much dps should a lancer be doing in a typical party (no slaying or an op party that can do enough dps for super short runs)?
I'm following the essentialmana lancer guide but I feel like there's such a discrepancy in dps between bosses.
I have +15 imp weapon btw, double enraged with the proper bottom rolls + T3 energetic, +12 imp chest with spring attack top roll. The rest guile. Also got +216 crit rate. Pls give me some advice seasoned lancers o/

Tera Shera Dmg Meter Guide 2017

  • Its easy. U need full IMP atleast to do more damage. Did u saw that video? Here is a example of lancer carried by gear. Normal lancer like me, supposed to die there already 15 times or more. Playing his way u do much of damage, but u need a deffence to eat hits . So if u wanna do 1m/s u need atleast ambush chest. With full ambush, u dont even need to block on first boss RMHM..
  • I'm no expert on lancer nor do I play one but I believe that ping and party composition is a big factor when you want to do good dps. If you play with a group that coordinates with all members of the party and knows what they're doing, you can easily put out better dps compared to a random party you find in LFGs. Same as with ping, even if you are very skilled, your dps as a high ping tank will be definitely lower compared to a low ping tank at same skill level and gear. Also maybe try to use consumables such as nocteniums, nostrums, bravery and canephora potions in case you dont.
  • About ping, yes damage will be lower if your ping is very high, but dont belive to people who say 'high ping lancer' no damage

I would say it's more of his dragons and consumables. That's pretty low damage given he has those things since Lancers without those extras can still break 1m. The ones with those can break 1.5 even on Lach. Some of the things he face tanked actually resulted in lower dps since you can't continue attacking, where as dodging it while still attacking would result in more damage.

Of course his damage is 'low' because that video was 3 days after the patch had just came out.

Here are some tips on improving your DPS (Not just lancer, but any class). Most information here is from the guides on Essential Mana. But, these really should be second nature to experienced players in TERA.
    1. Learn the Basic: Go to Essential Mana and read a guide on your class. Learn the glyph setup, optimal stats on gear, and Skill description. If you already know the basic, you can skip this step.
    2. Learn how much damage each of your skill does and categorize them. Then, learn the optimal rotation. Some guides will even provide this information for your class.
Damaging skills can be divided into 3 Tiers depending on their usefulness or Damage output. This is just a guideline.
Top Tier: Every tank/DPS class has 1-4 skills that yield the highest damage output. Each one accounts for around 30% of your total DPS on average. Note that a skill with high base damage isn't always the Top-Tier if it has too high Cooldown. A less damaging skill with short Cooldown may belong to Top-Tier if the skill makes up a huge portion of your total DPS. These skills need to be used as often as possible - not using these skills while they are off Cooldown is DPS loss. Try to use these skills whenever they are off CD and whenever the situation allows you to use them. For lancers, skills like Spring Attack, Shield Counter, and Wallop would belong in this category.
Mid-Tier: These are skills that does some damage but not as much as the Top-Tier skills. These skills may also provide some utility such as higher damage for Top-Tier skill or faster casting time of Top-Tier skills when chained properly. Use these skills only when all Top Tier skills are on Cooldown OR use them if they buff the Top-Tier skills in some way. Overuse of these skills is DPS loss. For lancers, Shield Barrage, Debilitate, Lockdown Blow, Shield Bash -> Onslaught would belong in this category (Some may argue that Onslaught is Top-Tier, but IMO, this skill requires a lot of glyph points to be useful, Ping Dependent, requires experience/skills to know when to use, so I put it in Mid-Tier).
Low-Tier: These are skills that provide little damage. Combo attack almost always belongs in this category. These skills may provide mobility for some classes and/or MP generation. Generally, any use of these skills is DPS loss. Only use them if all of your Top-Tier and Mid-Tier skills are on CD. You also use these skills if they provide useful utility such as mobility or Cooldown reduction. Most classes shouldn't really depend on these skills for MP generation - instead carry MP potions.
    3. Practice optimal skill rotations on IoD BAMs or keep running dungeons. You need the muscle memory so you can get the rotation out without even really thinking about it. Simply knowing the rotation and actually using them in battle are different, especially if you are learning a new class or if you are new to TERA. Spend some time to play around with your skill rotations.
    4. Learn boss (BAM) attacks. Find out which skill rotations (or any part of them) you can safely use between boss attacks.
Some boss attacks do so little damage that blocking/dodging them is simply unnecessary and ends up being DPS loss (One notable exception is lancers if they wants the block for Shield Counter or Hold the Line passive). These attacks do not have any special effects such as Bleed, Stagger, or Knockdown. If you know which boss attacks do such little damage, you can simply ignore them and keep using your Top-Tier/Mid-Tier skills without any interruption.
Some boss attacks do somewhat significant damage but not nearly enough to be life-threatening. They may even have some negative effects such as minor bleeding. You may want to interrupt your Mid-Tier skills to block or avoid them. However, if your healer is good and not under pressure, you may choose not to interrupt your High-Tier skills and just facetank these attacks.
Some boss attacks do so much damage or have some very negative effects that you absolutely must block or avoid them. It doesn't matter which skills you are about to use. Always interrupt them and avoid these attacks. Do not die.
    5. Learn to stay alive - Always. DPS stands for Damage Per Second. Time is still ticking while you lay dead on the floor. If healer is under pressure, you may even be on the ground for over 30-60 seconds - you just lost huge amount of DPS.
    6. Is DPS meter against ToS - Probably. Can DPS meter be an useful tool for improving your DPS - Absolutely.
If you can learn the stuff I described above, you should be doing decent DPS. The rest is up to your Gear, Consumables, Mounts, and etc.

As others mentioned above, having a really good ping and party comp are vital for lancer. It also depends how good your party members are. The dps in the party need to hold their own weight and be consistent in what they should average while the healer(s) provide the necessary debuffs/buffs as much uptime as possible. When you as the lancer is alive but the dps or healers die a lot, this hurts everyone as a party. So in runs like these, it's not expected to do high dps. Instead the percentage becomes more apparent.
One of the things I feel is important as a lancer is managing the enrage timers and buffs. Knowing when to use things like Adr rush + guardian shout plays a very key role in lancer dps and also everyone else's. Naturally most tanks will enrage the boss at the start while popping Adr. rush + guardian shout + brooch + beer. But also the when this enrage is over, how to manage the next part and so on is key. Most times I try to prioritize Adr rush + guardian shout (whichever off of cd) only during when boss is or about to be enraged because a lot more burst and dps during this part; always want the whole team to fully take advantage of the 37 seconds. And if you're lucky, a mystic and/or priest may use hurricane debuff during unenraged part to help reach the next enrage faster or just use it during enrage only. If tank doesn't enrage at start, it's important for the party to know that the tank will wait till 90 percent for natural enrage and then people use their stuff. If they use their stuff before that, that is a waste and hurts overall dps. So communication of party synergy is something to look at depending on which party you join. Also worth noting is that if your party is slow at getting the boss to the next enrage status, then that can be a problem. The faster the party gets to the next enrage status, the better overall it is for everyone and also for tank dps.
Another aspect that is important to look at are rotations. Everyone has a different style of play but I think all figure out a way to be efficient. It's really important to prioritize Shield barrage, spring attack, wallop and shield counter; don't forget debilitate to keep up the debuff uptime. Obviously there'll be times having to cancel a lot but getting those skills shouldn't be a problem as there are so many ways to cast them. While main skills on cd, it's good to use lockdown blow and onslaught. Surprisingly onslaught is a good filler dps, which accounts for about 10-15 percent of lancer dps but also is a bad skill if ping is not good. If casting debilitate is an issue, I recommend using the 100 percent uptime glyph. Even though I feel the 5 points are heavy, I kinda like it for me personally because it improved my dps a bit since I don't need to caste debilitate everytime but it is still part of my rotations.
Jewelry accessory maybe something worth looking at as well. I believe the usual setup is full crit (3 manorborne/2 blubred) for most lancers. For me though, I've always ran with 3 crit/2 power (3 manorborn/2 estate), netting me +184 crit unbuffed. I usually get around 37-41 percent crit rate with mystic in party and a bit higher if I use lamb. I feel whenever I crit, my crits are amazingly higher than it would be with a full crit set. With full crit set I tend to crit a bit more but the crits are not as big. I still need to test this setup more to really be able to tell if this would be better or my original setup should stay the way it should be.
  • How much dps should a lancer be doing in a typical party (no slaying or an op party that can do enough dps for super short runs)?
I'm averaging around 600-900k depending on the boss and I really need some tips on breaking the 1mil+ dps. Some dps examples: 800-900k on perimos/pahoegar, ~800k on spider boss in rmhm, ~500-600k nightmare lacelith. It's not like I'm losing aggro but when I'm doing 600k dps and I see a dps in the party doing like 1.4mil I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Thats funny, since in comments u can easy see his post about his stats. There is a link http://www.screencast.com/t/UlNiXpaXKGW
And if no ambush he supposed to be dead already more than 10 times. But i think he is best lancer anyway. He debuff boss, he buff party, he do damage. He keep agro, He care about bosss position He is allowed to do all of this, since he got good gear and two healers. This is the answer for that question.
To improve damage as Lancer u neeed good gear and good party. Most of lancers trying to do most of DPS, forget their real job. They are so dps hungry, they can even die to do one hit more
  • Those rolls are interesting. I tend to go with speed for my top roll just so I can get out of animation locks and block really quickly. Frankly I'm amazed he's so quick without it, but that might be a consequence of much lower ping.
On another note, does anyone know how large the dps difference is between a +15 imp lancer and a +15 ambush lancer? Or if you've recently upgraded from imp to ambush, have you felt a noticeable boost?

I would believe ping plays a huge role. And even though he has enrage, with mystic it's a +6 attack speed. Add along with bravery, food buff and priest's energy stars, really helps a lot with attack speed there.
Attack speed is really nice and that's something I have used to have for a long time up until my imperator lance. Primarily my reason for attack speed was also for the same reasons.
'On another note, does anyone know how large the dps difference is between a +15 imp lancer and a +15 ambush lancer? Or if you've recently upgraded from imp to ambush, have you felt a noticeable boost?'
When I upgraded from imperator to ambush, I made the switch from attack speed to enraged as the top line. I knew it would be quite of an adjustment for me because playing with attack speed for a very long time but slowly overtime I got used to it as I practiced more. I do miss the speed but the damage difference is quite noticeable with the enrage line. As I mentioned earlier, the mystic and buffs help out with the speed.
In terms of dps, I would say a +15 ambush lancer would probably do around roughly 8-10 percent or a bit more higher dps than a +15 imp lancer. In my case it's a bit different because I went from attack speed to enraged and I feel like I have almost around 15-20 percent dps difference.
  • snip
That's a pretty nice boost. Makes me eager to start making my ambush lance. Might even go for that enrage top line at this rate. It's so much fun being fast, but I basically feel capped in terms of my DPS with it. Thanks for all that info, friend.
  • Perfect rotations are possible without the extra attack speed, so I highly recommend the enrage top roll. Really nice damage spike change during enrage times. Reeeeeeealy good.
  • Try unwakened +12 imp glove with +3% dmg.
use brave pot/ noctenium/ some food. And, move to Chicago. :pleased:
